Travan

| Travan data cartridges are a member of
the QIC family of backup tapes. Travan drives may also be capable of reading
earlier QIC, QIC Wide as well as QIC-EX cartridges. |
Travan is a backup tape technology that
evolved from the QIC backup tapes, but uses wider tape, different tape guides
and improved magnetic media to yield higher capacities. With Network Series (NS)
drives, which provide hardware compression and read-while-write features, Travan
tapes are migrating from desktop backup to workgroup server backup. The drives
are sometimes compatible with QIC, QIC-Wide and QIC-EX cartridges.
